Thread: "Baby carrier recommendation?"
With my first we had bought an ergo. I wanted to love it, everyone kept recommending it, but the fit just wasn't right. I found the straps too wide for my shoulders, they kept slipping. I'm also short and that made using that carrier pretty uncomfortable. I sold it shortly after. I got into a baby wearing group and luckily, they had a lending library where you could borrow different models for a few days and see which one works best for you. I really loved the Boba and the Beco Gemini. My advice is to try to find such a place/group where you can actually try carriers before buying, or try buying a used one first (that way if you don't like it, you can resell it for the same price or similar to what you paid, and then try another one).
Thread: "Hiking baby carrier"
How long of a distance are you looking to hike? We hike very often and for pretty long distances (7-10 miles). If you’re just doing smaller hikes or go infrequently, I think you’re fine using a quality soft structured carrier. We have a beco Gemini but ergo baby and Tula are also good options. You want one that can be used to carry on the back with a wide hip belt to distribute the weight away from your shoulders. I also prefer the mesh ones to prevent them from getting too warm in the summer. If you’re looking to do longer hikes or use it a lot, we have an osprey poco and we love it. It has an internal frame and is highly adjustable for the parent. I’m 5’8” and seen it in action from someone who’s 5’2” and 6’3”. It’s comfy for the toddler too; it has stirrups and a built in sunshade. We don’t have one but also has heard really good things about the Deuter carrier too. There’s a really good secondary market for these and we got ours used from Facebook marketplace for <$100. Also REI carries the osprey and the deuter and I’d recommend going in and trying them out.
Thread: "Baby carriers?"
I’d check to see if your area has a babywearing group or carrier lending library where you can try out carriers with weighted dolls. Some stores apparently offer this as well, though I couldn’t find a store in our area that did this. My husband and I went to a babywearing group earlier this month, and it was sooo helpful to actually get to try on different carriers (and have someone making sure we were putting them on correctly). We decided to go with the K’Tan as a wrap style carrier as the Beco Gemini as a soft structured carrier.
Thread: "Anyone know of a solution for back pain while wearing?"
I had a lot of lower back pain when I tried the popular baby carriers that it seemed everyone recommended. The ones I tried were: Ergo Original, Ergo Embrace, Ergo Omni, Beco Gemini, and the TushBaby. What all of these have in common is a thick belt that you clip around your waist… The winner for me was a meh dai. I tried the DidyTai first but found the Lenny Lamb Wrap Tai and Hope & Plum meh dai also comfy. I think this style works because you distribute the weight over more of your body. Since then I have also tried a onbuhimo (neither me nor my toddler enjoyed) and a woven. The woven is super comfy! I also tried a ring sling in the early days and that worked decently well but my baby didn’t love it. So I’d recommend trying a meh dai, woven, or ring sling. I joined the Little Zen One program to try the Lenny Lamb Wraptai because I had wasted sooo much money on carriers that didn’t work. Definitely worth it if you live in the US or CA!
Thread: "Ergobaby worth it?"
I prefer the Beco Gemini. I know a lot of men like the Baby Bjorn when they're small but it's hopeless if you have hips. There are a ton of options and I think they go on sale fairly regularly and are always for sale used on my local classifieds (seriously - multiple Ergos a week!) so it might be worth waiting, especially if there's a chance you might be able to try a few out at some point (though honestly not sure how right now).
Thread: "Opinion on lillebaby carrier"
I personally do not like lillebaby carriers. I have tried them, and much like ergo baby, I find them generally bulky and uncomfortable. If you want something similar, I would go for a Beco Gemini or a Tula. Integra carriers look nice, though I haven’t personally tried them. Happy Baby is my favorite, but they are a hassle to buy.
Thread: "Baby carrier recommendations"
If you have one, a sling library is a great resource! Beco 8 or Beco Gemini carriers are reasonably priced but really good.
Thread: "What is the best baby carrier?"
I like my nalakai ring sling because it goes on easily and doesn’t make me as hot as my solly wrap. I use a beco gemini for more intense stuff. Both are reasonably priced
Thread: "Severe back pain from carrying baby and need baby carrier options to save my back. "
I lasted about that long too. I got the boba 4g and love it. It isn’t bulky and easy to use. The constellation design is 99$ on Amazon. I also have the beco Gemini and know they have the beco 8 as well.
Thread: "Ergobaby or Tula? "
I have an original ergo and a Tula explore and I like the Tula more right now! My son is 5.5 months, 16+ lb and over 27 inches. I like how the seat is adjustable so we were able to use it earlier than the original ergo. I feel like the padding is really supportive and I’m really comfortable in it. I started with a Beco Gemini and my husband uses that carrier now. Tbh I would have gotten a Tula free to grow because I’m not interested in world facing but was able to get this really great condition Tula explore for free.
Thread: "Let’s talk BAD carriers"
Even pulled to the tightest adjustment, the waistband on the Beco Gemini was too big for me, so baby was slumped way down no matter what. Replaced it with an ErgoBaby Omni Breeze, and it’s amazing!
