Thread: "Let’s talk BAD carriers"

I don't really understand how people can use the baby k'tan for more than a few minutes. It hurt my back even when my baby was a newborn. I guess maybe you develop muscles over time but... didn't seem worth it when every other carrier I had was more comfortable.

Thread: "$800 baby carrier…"

Confession: I have an artipoppe. NOT the $800 one. I ended up getting a bunch of other carriers as hand me downs or buy nothing group finds but the artipoppe and the tush baby are the only two I use because of how easy they are to get on and the fact that they saved my back. Especially after suffering a shoulder and spinal injury in a car accident when baby was 4 months. Honorable mention to the sollybaby and baby ktan wrap carriers that worked well for a while too.

Thread: "The Ergobaby 360 Hype"

I used the Moby and my husband used the baby K’Tan when she was a newborn. Now that she’s bigger, the ergobaby is fantastic. I got it off fb marketplace from someone in my neighborhood - it was practically brand new so it helped that we didn’t pay full price. She’s almost 6 months old and 17lbs ~ and it’s quite sturdy yet comfortable.

Thread: "Toddler slings?"

Ring slings do have a learning curve, but I think you would find it easier to learn with a toddler that can support their body than a floppy baby. To me, the issue with the carriers pictured here are that they aren’t hands free or even stable for the toddler to sit. I think even a Tush Baby (bulky, I know) would be more stable. A hip carry in a ring sling can be hands free with a baby that can support their body, like your toddler would be able to.

Thread: "Ring sling or wrap for newborn?"

I loved and still love my k'tan. So many positions, ok to nurse in, very comfortable, machine washable, and you don't have to wrap it. Bonus: it rolls up into an attached carry bag! One thing that could be a downside is that it is fitted to the wearer. I used it with my son from newborn and still at almost 2, keep it in the car or my bag, just in case.

Thread: "What is the best baby carrier?"

I haven’t seen it in this thread so I’ll throw in mine which is the baby k’tan! Super easy to throw on and great for contact napping but not for long term days

Thread: "Toddler slings?"

I have never used a ring sling actually, I've found them to be quite intimidating. What we have used since she was born: ergobaby embrace, honeyroo joey classic, baby k'tan. Those are the only kinds of carriers we have experience with. The one I'm looking at (wildride carrier) has a 44lbs limit, 9 months to 4yo is what their description states.

Thread: "Ring sling or wrap for newborn?"

When I first got the K'tan I would tie the "seatbelt" part in the back. After a few weeks, I wanted to be able to sit with her so I crossed the straps in the back and knotted it in the front. Game changer. It was much tighter and more secure. I highly recommend doing that if you go with the k'tan.

Thread: "Anyone buy a structured carrier after getting tired of the wrap?"

I wouldn't transition to a ring sling if weight is the issue. Babies weight isn't evenly distributed over your body. I still use mine for short stints with a chunky 4 month old when easy on and off is important, but for longer carries I use a soft woven wrap. It's not as easy to get on and off but it is much more comfortable if I need to wear him for a long time. I definitely find the woven wrap easier than the stretchy.

Thread: "Ergo baby Omni 360- is it worth the hype?"

Our baby hates the Ktan, she doesn’t even really love being carried around a ton, but she loves the ergo. She’s still a bit too small for it so we’ve only tried it out at home for a few minutes, but yeah I cannot wait until she’s big enough for it.

Thread: "Purchased the Baby Bjorn mini - should I return?"

My baby is 7 wks, just over 9lbs and we love the bjorn mini. It’s been a lifesaver in our household. My husband, mom and I use it interchangeably. The Omni 360, Moby, and Baby Ktan just sit in the corner now.

Baby ktan is my favorite, and a close second (especially if you have a partner who might need a different size) is the MomCozy with rings. Same fit as the Ktan but adjustable.

Thread: "Is Artipoppe worth it?"

Husband and I are same heights as you guys. Get separate carriers. It’s the only way. One can be an artepoppe of you like it. My husband loved the ergobaby 360 but it was too big for me. He used it every day though. I used a k’tan and WildBird ring sling. Both those were gifts. If I’d picked my own, I’d have purchased something like the Artepoppe but more affordable and good for petite women. I adore the k’tan but it wasn’t great once my baby was bigger. I’m pregnant again and will definitely use it daily for this next newborn. For current child (26lbs, 34” tall) we both use the Tushbaby exclusively haha

Thread: "Baby Beluga vs Boba Wrap - which wrap?"

If your baby isn’t born yet, wait until they are and bring them with to try wraps. I thought I’d live the k’tan and it was just awkward for me and my baby. I ended up with a very structured carrier that worked well for us.

Thread: "Ergobaby carrier or Baby Bjorn?"

We tried them all (seriously) Ergo360 and Becco worked best for us. The baby k'tan is also good for early baby wearing if you can find the right fit for your body - I found that the sizing runs a little on the small side

You want a K’tan to fit very snug before you put baby in, I agree I’d at least give it a go. Searching the sub for fit checks for the carriers you have specifically can also be very helpful, that’s how I learned quite a bit at the start.

Thread: "Ring sling or wrap for newborn?"

My k'tan started hurting my back when my baby hit 15 pounds so I had to stop using it. I switched to a sling (hot sling) since he can sit up and an ergo for longer carries.

Thread: "Ring sling or wrap for newborn?"

I loved my k'tan too. I tried a friend's ring sling a few times and didn't like it at all. It made one arm difficult to use and I didnt like that the baby's weight wasn't evenly supported across my body.
