I'm happy to be proven wrong if someone has evidence to the contrary, but I haven't found any research supporting your friend's claim. There are a few studies looking at brain injury related to incorrect[(such as this one) ](https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC1719118/) use of bouncer chairs leading to a harmful fall, but that doesn't seem like your case: your child was strapped in, supervised and bring carefully rocked. There is [an article](https://www.thelancet.com/journals/lancet/article/PIIS0140-6736(72)90261-9/fulltext) from 1972 describing issues related to bouncers but I honestly think neither bouncers nor development science are the same as they were then. Honestly, kids bounce around in their mom's belly for nine months, then they are carried around in strollers or carriers all the time, rocked to sleep. If we are not talking actual SHAKING I don't think a bouncer should vigorous enough movement for it to be a concern. To me it sounds like your friend is paying to not need to care about this problem and validating her decisions by pushing them into you. You will experience that a lot as a parent.

I got the alpine deluxe bouncer, and I like it just as much! I’ve tried the baby bjorn bouncer at a friend’s house and didn’t see that much of a difference.

My baby hated it initially but he was a preemie and I honestly think he was just too small for it. My guy is 4 months now and loves it. I do too as he can be alone while I can shower, clean, etc. it is also magic for making them poop I have no idea how 😂

I’ve had bouncers at varying price points for my two kids. Baby bjorn is my hands down favorite baby item. What I think sets it (and the dupes designed like it) apart is that it goes from a really gentle, comfortable resting place to a self-bouncer with a great range of motion as baby grows up. Once they start trulybwiggling they learn to bounce and soothe themselves and the spring design amplifies that motion in a soothing way. This makes it fantastic from birth to whenever they age out (lasted up until both my babies walked). It also folds flat for storage or travel and is super easy to wash. I like that it doesn’t have any clips that could pinch baby skin or straps that require adjusting as they grow. It’s just really well designed.

True!! My baby HATED her Baby Bjorn bouncer. Back when I was pregnant and shopping, we were too excited to buy that bouncer. Every momfluencer I followed RAVED about it and kept saying that they couldn't imagine life without it. Well, we decided to splurge on that bouncer and that wooden bouncer toy from BabyBjorn. Well, baby comes along; decides she wants nothing to do with that bouncer. She just wanted to be held or put on her tummy time mat. Ended up selling that bouncer for half the price.

Sometimes I feel like all the positive reviews for the baby bjorn bouncers are just because bouncers are great and people typically only own one of them. Plus justification for spending all that money.

So full disclosure I never would have bought one myself at that price point but we got randomly gifted one from a coworker when we had our baby (brand new too, like what?!) we were so grateful and also shocked haha. I have to say, it has been amazing. My colicky reflux baby was the most relaxed ever in that thing, and it also made her poop (blessing and a curse, especially for those riiight up the back ones), it’s easy to wash, easy to store, sleek and babies can bounce themselves in it which mine absolutely loved. Now my baby is a toddler and it’s still her favourite chair in the older kids setting, she loves bouncing in it and rocking all her soft toys in it. We will have to put it away soon though as she’s about to exceed the weight limit but it has served us well. We haven’t kept many things as we’re not sure when or if we’ll have another, but we are keeping the baby bjorn bouncer for sure. I’m aware I sound like a straight up advertisement right now and like I say I think the price point is insane, I’m sure there are other bouncers that are as good for much less, but we loveeee ours.

Yes, I got a couple of cheaper ones (fisher price etc) free and baby didn't care for them at all, just cried. Got a baby bjorn and she's crazy about it and I can finally take a shower. I wish it was just hype, so expensive.

Got one second hand, used it multiple times a day until she could sit unaided (around 6 months). At 13 months we took it out again and put it into "toddler seat" mode and she loves it. Still in use daily at 16 months.

Came here to say this! Our son loved the alpine bouncer. For a while this bouncer was one of the only things that kept him happy 😅 The cover was easy to take off and wash if he had a blow out in it

We use it multiple times a day everyday. Our LO is almost 5 months and he's been in it from 2 months on. It really helps when I am doing chores or just want to take a moment to sit back. I normally have him hang in there for 20 minutes at a time or whenever he shows like he wants to move on. We got out baby bjorn from Facebook marketplace for a small amount. So I would definitely get one used if you find one!

This is by far my favorite thing we have. It allows our baby to sit completely upright which really helps with reflux and spit up after feeding. He also has the best poops while sitting in that chair 😂 Like others said, washable, foldable, etc. My baby did not care for a vibrating bouncer or swing. He just loves to bounce in the Bjorn. We use it every day during every wake window because it helps him digest. It’s his favorite place. I think the price is ridiculous, but it’s been worth every penny. If I knew how much we would have used it before we bought it, I would have easily paid double.

Considering my daughter spent most of her waking hours in it, other than tummy time and our arms, I'd say it was not overpriced. Edit: MIL got one of the cheap-o ones. Daughter won't go in it. Guessing it's a comfort thing. Can't say. But she does not like that one.

I'm not sure my daughter has any strong feelings either way towards it. She's pretty content in it for up to 15 minutes. But I love it so I can get my morning routine done while she sits and observes. It also gives her great BMs.

And the baby bjorn bouncer actually reclines quite a bit for this reason in the newborn position. I know anecdotally other health professionals have preferred this one. I really didn’t bounce my newborn in it, but with leg movement she could get it to bounce slightly. It was a life saver when I needed to shower or go to the bathroom. But I also wouldn’t have let her sleep in it.

My first did not like the baby bjorn bouncer, although he had a strong dislike for anything outside the womb. Second baby LOVED the bjorn bouncer. They are all so different.

For the $80 I spent at once upon a child, yes. But I would never spend more than that. They’re actually losing their value and have seen them on marketplace for lower than $80 now with the toy bar included.

The baby delight bouncer is basically the same thing for a fraction of the price (and comes with the toy bar which bjorn does not). The baby bjorn is really not doing anything that other bouncers can’t do, you’re really just paying for the brand name imo.

Oh you mean the Pooping Chair? Yes, yes it is. We also had the Maxi Cosi one and my son hated it. BB is the way to go!

As someone whose baby loved it, my sage piece of advice has become this: don’t buy anything you probably can’t return. And buy as little as possible before your baby is born. It’s much easier and financially sensical to buy as you go, because then you have a better idea of what you need. Case in point, my baby hated swings, but loved the babyjorn (easily my most expensive and most well suited purchase for my baby). He lived in that thing and loved it, and it was amazing for travel and gave me a place to set him in when traveling that I could step away from while keeping him in sight. In general he hated being strapped in and lacking control, and I think the babyjorn bouncer gave him that back because he could gravity bounce himself. Our daycare had similar ones but they weren’t gravity based, and had motors that shook and swayed the baby but looked like the bjorn —he hated them. He also was a great sleeper from the get go. So am expensive sleeper like the SNOO would’ve been absolutely wasted on us.

Yes! Both my babies loved it. I did get mine second hand, and it was still in great shape. Your baby is 100% going to make a mess in it, so might as well save some money and get one you won’t be so worried about.

Thankfully i bought it before it hit the influencers radar and it worked out for me. It’s the only splurge item I recommend to people. Both my daughter and son loved it!

Came here to recommend buying secondhand. We got our baby bjorn off facebook marketplace and will likely sell it for what we paid. They hold up great and the covers are machine washable, so no need to pay $200 for a new one.

Yes us too!!! The pooping chair hahaha we just bought a used one on fb marketplace. So worth it! We sold ours but I’ll just need to get another one for our second. Also will be buying used. Resale value is high so u can just get rid of it like we did after your kid outgrows it and it’ll be like u borrowed it for a couple of bucks. Requires more work but it might make u feel better abt the initial cost

The Baby Bjorn was dubbed the “poop chair” here. For the first 4 months of his life; if he hadn’t pooped in a while we would pop him in there for 15 mins and he would immediately go. It was very helpful for when it was almost bath time and he hadn’t gone that day. Him not pooping in the tub is 100% worth the cost of that bouncer (and more!)

Any bouncy chair works if you want one but they’re not necessary at all. Babies can just be put down on the floor on a blanket or in their cribs. All the containers are not necessary.

I used a reclined bouncer for a very short period for my son before I read that they aren’t really recommended and floor time is great for them. My friend used the Baby Bjorn bouncer and the Skip Hop exosaucer. Her son learned to walk earlier than mine by a few months, but he walked/ran on his toes and still is on his toes at age 2. He seems unsteady and she has to hover around him to prevent him from hurting himself. My son has really good body awareness and balance. He took a little longer to walk, but once he did he was really good at it right away. Could be something else, but it did make me think that these devices aren’t the best because they put them in positions that they aren’t yet ready for or they give them a false sense of balance or something.

It's the only thing keeping my sanity right now. The only thing that will keep my baby from having a fit when I set her down and lets me pump milk and eat. She didn't like her swing but she loves this Baby Bjorn like 90% of the time. I got it used off of Marketplace for $85.

I didn’t get one with my first but I did get one that I used with 2 and 3. Bought it at half price on FB like new. While there’s nothing magical about it, it’s just a well designed, functional, useful baby gear item. Used it daily for 2nd and 3rd child until they could sit on their own and crawl. It is much better than other brands floor seats like the Fisher Price Rocker and the Snugapup vibrator seat for various reasons. I have all three (the latter two were gifts with my first) but once I got the Bjorn, the other ones gathered dust in the bonus room. I like that it keeps baby’s back straight and doesn’t cause them to slouch or slump over. The bounce feature that you can use with your hand or foot is infinitely better and once the baby figures out how to move it to move themselves is also nifty. It’s easy to clean and stores completely flat. I don’t know if the Bjorn knock off bouncers are the same. But I do think if you can find one at a good deal off MP I do think it’s worth it.

I have a bjorn bouncer that my mom bought for my adopted brother 10 years ago. It’s been through 5 baby’s (my nieces/nephews) and it’s still in perfect condition. My baby has loved sitting in it since day 1 and it’s convenient to bring to in-laws house because it collapses flat. I also have a cheap generic baby bouncer chair that we use just when I’m doing laundry in the basement. I wasn’t able to start using it til she was 1+ month because it kind of squished her chin downwards and does not appear as comfy (although it does vibrate and play music but we never end up using that feature). I am a big fan of the bjorn bouncer and it keeps its value if you ever wanted to re-sell it.

I personally loved the Baby Bjorn - it's portable, you can bounce it with your foot and the baby isn't in a weird seated position that might hurt their hips. A lot of bouncers position a baby's hips in a way that can have a negative impact on development over time, which is why time is suggested to be limited. For me, it was worth the price all the way. Probably one of my top most valued newborn items. The floor has tons of benefits for development but a bouncer is safer option in many situations, for instance if you are showering, washing dishes etc and more distracted or a less ideal room. It's also great because you can be seated and make eye contact with the baby, talk to them, tell a story etc. This was great while I was briefly working from home with my LO - I could interact and bounce them but also multi-task and not be on the floor. can you survive without one? Absolutely. Did it provide a ton of value for me? 1000%.

Agreed! I bought lots of different baby “containers” just so I had multiple safe places to put the baby down throughout the house. But I ended up just bringing the bjorn bouncer from room to room because my daughter loved it so much.
