Get a slumber pod! It’s a blackout cover for the pack and play. We love ours and have used it so much between two kids. You can have all the lights on in the room and the crib will be completely dark.

I would definitely do this, with the fan on and door cracked to get some circulation. I didn’t love the slumber pod and it’s quite pricey, plus it was even more stuffy than an open bathroom.

i'd heard the same thing about the slumber pod with ventilation. it's too much for us anyway. (although in the middle of the night if we've been up for hours i'll change my tune and throw money at anything 🤣)

We actually had to make a quick decision on this yesterday because we realized our Guava travel crib had mold just before bedtime, and my wife and I went to Walmart to get a pack 'n' play, only to realize our lovely 90-plus percentile toddler is too big for that or the Guava. We have a Slumberpod that has worked well for traveling in the past, so we bought a Graco toddler mattress with bedding and put the Slumberpod over that. We were worried about her busting out of the Slumberpod because she could easily lift up the sides, but, luckily for us, she slept on the mattress the entire night! It helped that we had already transitioned to a toddler bed at home, and she hasn't seemed super interested in getting out of the bed herself. EDIT: I would struggle with putting her into a real bed that was elevated unless there's some protection for her falling off the bed because she likes to move around a lot in her sleep. Case in point: She was halfway off the mattress this morning when I saw her sleeping this morning. Such a cutie!

We use the Guava Lotus and are pretty happy with it, but the key I’ve found is the SlumberPod. Now that mine is over one I have no qualms about using it. When I tried to get my baby to sleep in the Guava without it he was just way too distracted by his surroundings, even when we made it as dark as possible. But with the Slumberpod he goes literally right to sleep!

There are way cheaper versions available - you don’t necessarily have to buy the name brand version. They are also very breathable and some have a pouch to add a fan for additional air flow.

Slumberpod isn’t attached - it goes over top with no attachment or ties. I wouldn’t put a tiny baby in it but an almost 1 year old who is almost at walking age? I personally wouldn’t have a big concern and our toddlers have slept really well in them. To each their own as far as acceptable risk vs benefit.

I actually would be more concerned about the toddler because they can pull on the walls of the crib tent and attempt to climb out creating more of an entrapment hazard if they were to attempt to climb out and become wedged between the wall of the pack n play and the crib tent. Another crib tent with a slightly different design was recalled in the US after causing 27 fatalities and a catastrophic brain injury to a two year old when a broken rod trapped him at the neck. Like I said the design is a bit different but theoretically a rod could snap in the top of the slumber pod too and a child could attempt to climb out of it and become wedged between the pack n play and the slumber pod. Being unattached and both having flexible walls permit wiggle room perfect for entrapping a toddler. Though attached crib tents have also allowed for entrapment. [here](https://www.parents.com/crib-tent-dangers-7642388) is another article about crib tents Anyway like you said to each their own on risks vs benefits for me the slumberpod is too close in design and theoretical risk to other crib tents that have killed infants and toddlers so the benefits aren’t worth it to me.

I would’ve loved to have used the slumber pod for my kid but she hated it and it made her panic!! So be warned, it can be a very expensive fail. I would choose bathroom over slumberpod in my experience.

Guava Lotus is fantastic. My kid did like 100 nights in it during various travels until he got too big around age 2. We also used it as a pack and play for containing him at home when I was out of the room. I absolutely love it. Seconding the Slumberpod to go over the Lotus - the ultimate combo for parents that like to travel.

Pack n play, although the “mattress” is quite hard—my daughter was only ok with it after I added another mattress. Also slumberpod if you are doing any room sharing.

A bit of a different experience with the SlumberPod. We shelled out for one before travelling to the UK in March. Not exactly a hot destination, but the SlumberPod was *so* hot inside, even with the zipper open. My baby hated it and I was worried about him being too warm. It’s also challenging to stick your head in there in the night and pull baby out if needed. I know a lot of people swear by them though. Would definitely suggest renting one or buying secondhand if you want to give it a try, OP.

I love the Guava Lotus but the only thing I don't like is how far down it goes with a small baby (though later on, this becomes a pro as the baby gets bigger--no weight limit). But what's nice is the side opening. I was able to fit two sets of sheets and a blackout cover in the bag as well. You can get a blackout cover on Amazon that's way smaller than the Slumberpod. Highly recommended for hotels etc

The slumberpod isn’t necessary but recreating the sleep environment is, and for us the slumberpod just helps us achieve that. And I also would never pay full price for it, especially if you’re not sure it’ll work for you! We got our first when they had a really good sale and our second one second-hand. They also have knock off versions you can buy that do the same thing, but as we had success with the first one we didn’t want to mess with a good thing, you know? I never had an issue with the heat, so that’s interesting! To be fair also my kids are both really good sleepers so I’ve only needed to pull them out when it’s time for them to get up, I can totally see how it would be annoying if you have to get them in and out of it all the time. There is a place inside to put a monitor, which you can use to monitor temperature, but also you can add a fan in the same spot if the heat is an issue. My main point is not to buy a slumberpod, but just find a way that works for your child to recreate their home environment as best you can. Also I really recommend testing the setup out at home or in a low-stakes environment first if you’re worried. For us that meant having our daughter try to nap at my parents house using our travel setup. They live 10 minutes away, so if it didn’t work out, we could’ve just gone home and napped there.

It’s not considered safe to add any third party mattress to a pack n play unfortunately. With a Graco pack n play part of the problem for us is that there are folds/creases in the mattress and also the material is kind of loud (even with a sheet over it) We now have a Guava Lotus and the mattress kind of rolls up to fit in the bag and doesn’t have the creases, and it’s quieter. He does seem to have slept better in it but it’s hard to pinpoint what exactly makes the difference because sometimes just traveling can throw them off. Also a Slumberpod helped a lot, the biggest problem for us was sleeping in the same room as the baby, he kept waking up and wanting us. With the Slumberpod he was blissfully unaware that we were sleeping 2 feet away

We ended up with the babybjorn much to my first hesitation and it ended up really great. She used it all until this past February (she turned 2.5 in March). We’ve traveled a lot domestically and internationally with it, the mattress has a back that then fits into the mesh bed so it’s enclosed. If you do get it, I recommend buying a few of the Bjorn sheets. I always had a few clean ones I traveled with. And just going to throw it out there that we had the slumberpod that we would put over the travel crib and it was amazing combo.

I think it’s the graco on the go pack n play. I got a play yard mattress from Target online (with infant and toddler side), and then the play yard sheets and mattress protectors also from Target. We were gifted the slumberpod at my shower, so I have that setup as well. Then we can have her sleeping in any room with curtains open. I think we will try a mini crib in the future, but it largely depends on the room situation when she gets to that stage :)

We bought a graco pack n play for travel but quickly realized that most hotels have cribs/pack n plays that have been absolutely fine, and with the rental options available, it's cheaper and easier to do that versus pay for checking it as luggage and then lugging it around. We use the pack n play for road trips or to bring to families houses but it has mostly gathered dust. Instead, we use our luggage space for our slumberpod, which has fit over any hotel crib option we've ever had and fits in a suitcase with the rest of baby's stuff.

Okay that’s amazing to hear, it’s my first choice! I luckily live right on the border so can have family that lives across bring it over :) Do you find it’s awkward to place your baby in with the slumberpod? Like lowering them down etc? Thanks!

Something you could consider for future use that is safe and gives a blackout sleep setting for baby is the Slumberpod (look it up on Amazon), also would be very convenient for travel. There are some knockoff brands that are considerably cheaper, but the reviews for the Slumberpod are all stellar.
