We used the skip hop diaper bag which was fine but you really could use a regular back pack as long as you’ve got pouches for organizing. Baggu bags are amazing too and I wish I used them from the beginning because I like them so much more 🤷🏻‍♀️

I have a skip hop diaper bag that is like a backpack. The only feature I like better than just a plain backpack is how it opens wide at the top which makes it super easy to get things out. Honestly, a regular backpack would have worked fine for me. Also, regular towels and washcloths are fine. Those hooded towels never worked for us. I just dry baby’s hair with a dry washcloth while she is still in the tub so she doesn’t get cold.

Backpack style diaper bag. They offer various pockets and compartments regular bag packs don't offer. Your back will thank you for picking a backpack style over the traditional tote/purse style. The biggest things to consider is the material / quality / size / cost of the bag you want based on how often you plan to use it. I personally used the Skip Hop Forma Diaper Backpack for 15 months with my 21 month old, we currently use a small skip hop toddler leash backpack as we need less things. We just toss a few diapers in, a pack of wipes, and a bottle of water if we are going out for a bit. I pack my diaper backpack when we do longer outings, and I am currently expecting another baby so I'll be using it again more frequently. My diaper bag is still in perfect condition and has been used heavily.

It’s like a backpack - comes with clips to attach to your stroller. And it has these two cubes where you can put stuff in them and stay organized. It’s under $80.

I don't like bags that take more than one hand to open/close or that have multiple opening steps. So both of these would be ruled out because of the metal frame and the straps that close around the zipper that you have to undo. I also ruled out bags that had an extra flap that covered the zipper like the Calpak. For similar reasons I didn't want to use a regular bag with packing cubes for organization. I wanted a bag that wasn't a black hole you just dumped stuff info. A backpack that unzips most of the way solves this because you can open it really wide to see everything in it. And it has extra pockets for organization. Quick! Your baby just spat up everywhere and you have 2.5 seconds before it drips onto your pants! Can you get a burp cloth out of your bag in time? Not if you have to unbuckle those straps and dig out a packing cube first... I got the Twelvelittle Companion bag on sale and I think it'll work great. I previously had the Skip Hop Forma and liked it surprisingly well for the price, and I'd recommend it.

My friends recommended Skip Hop diaper bags to me. I got the Skip Hop Forma - it reminded me of the lululemon parent bag without the hefty price tag. I started packing stuff in it but I haven't used it yet so I can't really comment on how much I'll love it. My friends love their Skip Hop diaper bags though - said they're super lightweight and easy to clean.

Don’t overthink it too much, but know your needs will keep changing. Also it’s contextual—do you live in a city or are you driving everywhere. On trips I pack differently (pouches in a bigger bag or dedicated weekender type bag that is easy to fit under seat if they have their own seat on a flight). Also if you’re breast feeding vs carrying bottles with you is a big difference in space requirements. We started with a Skip Hop Forma. Good when they’re little cuz it’s easy to find stuff. Unless you’re backpacking Japan with baby in a carrier, you probably won’t care about needing to take it off to access. The straps are meh but you won’t carry it much. Nice to not worry about getting poop or vomit on a nicer bag. Then we used an Alpha One Niner Chio X for a while. Quick to grab when going around the city, easy to fit in our stroller, can hang it over stroller handlebar if you need more basket space. But the organization on it is kind of a waste (only fits small items and eats up interior space) and it got a bit too small for snacks. The similar Uniqlo bag isn’t xpac but seems a touch bigger so may be good choice though the bottle pockets are weird. I’d bought a Rework Toshi backpack for myself along the way and that’s ended up being our current diaper bag. More space, little bit of organization (I put an Alpaka pouch of my things in the upper pocket), water bottle pocket x 2, very comfortable carry for when you need stroller basket or don’t have a stroller, etc. I’ve also used an Evergoods CTB26 on a trip, we put kiddo’s stuff in there alongside mine for flight. Having the different exterior access pockets is nice if you leave it in stroller. I just don’t love the harness and it’s heavy for regular use. On other trips since I’ve tended to end up bringing an old Incase underseat bag when little one has their own seat and then when we arrive we use my ULA Dragonfly and just put a pouch of diaper stuff (Matador Gear Cube—big fan of these for kid stuff cuz of the big opening and grabbability) and ziploc of snacks in that. The Dragonfly has ton of space so can flex for longer day trips, buying stuff, rain, etc. The big water bottle pockets are useful for weird shaped bottles or can even carry multiple ones. I have the Skip Hop Forma diaper bag. It's a quality bag with lots of pockets (and came with packing cubes). It has 2 side pockets that are apparently insulated and comes with a changing pad. Straps are comfortable and material is quality. The only thing I don't like is that there's really not a good spot to attach anything on the outside (like pacifier holder) other than the straps. Baby is 8 weeks so I don't really have anything to compare it to. As for what's in it, I have our own changing pad (with diapers and wipes in it), Moby wrap carrier, breastfeeding cover, change of outfit, pacifier wipes, boogie wipes, breast pads, burp cloths, diaper cream spray and a bottle with formula in case I can't get her on the boob for some reason. Depending on what we are doing, I put my manual pump and/or my breastmilk chiller. I did attach a pacifier carrier and a roll of diaper bags on the outside they just sort of get in the way.

Went from the peak design 20L zip (too tight) to the wandrd tote (great size but too dark inside) to the able carry daily plus (tight also and the straps weren’t great) to the matador edx lite (the best so far). Also tried a skip hop diaper backpack (garbage straps) and another bag that transformed into a little bassinet/bed thing (terrible). It was some weird thing my mom got in Chinatown. Edx lite was great because it was slightly bigger, lighter and more comfortable than all of the other bags. My wife was happiest with this one but your need to pack something flat against your back or you’ll feel something jabbing into your back lol My kid is 6 months now so we can carry a bit less in terms of bibs/drool towels. I think our biggest problem was a big skip hop changing pad that ate up all of the space in the bag, since it also carried diapers and rash cream. If I were to do it all over again I’d get a smaller pad and a separate bag for diapers. Also suggest carrying a dry bag for blow outs and keeping 2 clean sets of clothes. Good luck on your journey! We initially went with the Skip Hop Forma because we liked the style, size, and storage options but 2 years in the straps were worn out and it wasn't comfortable to wear anymore. Now we use the Target/Cloud Island Neoprene diaper bag and love it. Tons of storage. Extremely comfortable to wear even when full. Has an insulated pouch and you can access the wipes from the outside if that matters to you (does sacrifice a water bottle pouch to make that happen but it's ok). It's also a dupe for the Dagne Dover bag if that matters. Both bags retail for under $100 USD

Have the same skip hop and it works great, I love the organizer pouches it comes with. I can't imagine cleaning neoprene like Dagne Dover (Target also has a knockoff version I saw in store recently).

Weve had this one since my 1.5 year old was born. You'll love it. I got black so my husband wouldn't be weird about using it, but love the mauve one. Paired it with the skip hop clippy changing pad with pockets. It's da bomb.

We have and love this one too! I love the clips that you can use to attach it to a stroller - those come in so handy for zoo trips or any longer outing!

The skip hop one was what I was gonna recommend, we got it in black for hubby and also got one of their other bags for me. So it's nice because we have two diaper bags always packed. Mine will stay with me and his will stay in the car because I'll have her more being a SAHM
