Thread: "First time mom! What do people find to be the best breast pump?"

I like my spectra S2. I don’t mind taking the breaks to sit plugged in for 10-20 minutes a few times a day. I have an inexpensive manual medela hand pump for travel which has worked for me but I’m not on the go needing to pump very frequently.

Thread: "Help, Is Wearable Pump Bra Worth It for Low Supply?"

Been there in the early days! On days he's home, can your husband make some easy foods for you to eat when he's not? Bread and hummus, roast chickpeas, lactation cookies, baked oatmea, pasta saladl. Just anything to get some calories and nutrients in you. I still have low supply but it doubled once I started eating more regularly. I can't answer your pump question, as I never tried a wearable. I ended up mostly giving up on pumping, but I get better results with a Medela manual pump than I did with my electric. And it's less of an ordeal to use, so when my baby has been on a nursing strike, I can easily pump one side while he has a formula bottle.

You can also get a camera battery pack off Amazon if you can't find a wall.

I definitely recommend getting a manual pump as a backup - I ended up hating the electric pump and never used it. I had a manual Medela and it was easy and worked well for me. I've also heard they can work better for clogs!

Thread: "Hospital grade pump - worth it?"

I haven’t used a “hospital grade” pump personally but hear they are close in power to things like the spectra. Also note that the term “hospital grade” as it applies to personal pumps is not recognized by the FDA. Possibly helpful article https://aeroflowbreastpumps.com/blog/hospital-grade-breast-pumps-faq#:~:text=A%20hospital%2Dgrade%20breast%20pump%20is%20a%20rental%20breast%20pump,from%20properly%20breastfeeding%20their%20babies. I have 4 pumps - medela manual pump, spectra S2, momcozy s12 pros, and Pumpables Genie Advance. My manual pump is great, I think everyone should at least have one handy to help pumping for comfort when engorged from time to time. Also great for MOTN if you’re trying to quietly pump in bed. My Spectra kind of stressed me out at first so I wasn’t able to get much out until I got more comfortable. The momcozy wearables were great until my supply regulated. I haven’t been able to get more than an ounce or two per side in a while when my other pumps regularly get 3-5 oz per side. I just don’t respond well to the style or flange size anymore. But I know quite a few women who still prefer them. My PGA is a new favorite for portability and the silicone flange kit. Plus I can interchange parts with my spectra.

      Thread: "Momcozy pumps"

I just take mine time with assembling it back is all! Once I place the silicone flange on all the way around I go back over it a second time to make sure it is secure and haven’t had any issues with leaking in months. I’ve only had it about three months. I don’t have any pumping bras but I just wear a regular bra and if I am trying to be super mobile and get stuff done I wear one of my looser sports bras over it and I can move around without them falling off. But if I am just sitting, I feel like my regular wireless bras keep them in place just fine. I’m sure if you use a pumping bra you wouldn’t need to double up like I do but I didn’t want to invest in them. I use them a lot when driving (probably not safe) and when visiting family/friends houses but I never have used them out in public. They are quite noticeable and the motor is on the louder side.

I’m deciding on the S12 pro because I’m a little tired of setting up the Medela swing maxi and being wired although slightly portable… and this sounds so promising! Can you elaborate on how you fixed the user error please? Was it just positioning? The bulk ones doesn’t bother you anymore? Do you ever use it outside of your home?

Thread: "Best Breast Pumps Available In Canada for First Time Mom [NL]"

I have the medela manual pump and the medela swing maxi. I personally love my manual pump, but I only pump twice a day for max 20 mins each session. I feel like it really pulls my milk out the best and I can control the flow. But if I was pumping more times a day it definitely would get fatiguing. And when I’m not feeling like the work I use my swing maxi. Personally the swing maxi is good but a little annoying because I don’t like having two giant bottles attached to me. And it needed the bra as well to be hands free. I was recommended the brand by a few lactation consultants. The only one I’ve heard to be “better” is spectra which I don’t believe is in Canada yet
