How we rankbaby gear.
Every number on this site comes from one dataset: 58,562 Reddit comments about baby gear, written by parents who already own the products. This page is the complete method — what we collect, how we count it, and what we deliberately don't do.
From threads to rankings
- GatherWe collect discussion threads from parenting subreddits (r/beyondthebump, r/NewParents, r/daddit, r/Mommit and others) — specifically threads where parents are choosing between products or reporting on ones they own. Threads about sleep training or feeding practice are excluded; they mention gear without judging it.
- ExtractSoftware (AI-assisted, human-audited) reads each comment and records which product is being discussed and whether the experience is positive, negative or neutral. Variant spellings of the same product are merged — “Bjorn bouncer”, “BabyBjörn Bouncer Bliss” and friends count as one product, and generic terms that aren't a product at all are discarded.
- Count parents, not commentsOne parent, one voice. Someone praising their favorite carrier across ten threads still counts once. This single rule removes most of the distortion in “most mentioned” lists.
- ScoreA product's score blends how widely parents recommend it with how satisfied its actual owners are — weighted toward satisfaction, so a heavily-hyped product with unhappy owners ranks below a quieter one that owners love. Scores are confidence-weighted: small samples get pulled toward the category average until more parents weigh in. Loved-by-three never beats trusted-by-two-hundred.
- Publish with receiptsEvery product page shows the actual comments behind its score — the recommendations and the complaints. If you disagree with a ranking, the evidence to check our work is on the page.
What gets excluded
Under 10 unique parents: not ranked. A handful of opinions isn't a consensus.
Brand-only chatter: “we love Graco” informs the picture but never appears as a product.
Thin categories are labeled, not inflated. Where parents don't converge on specific products — diaper bags are the standing example — we say so rather than manufacture a winner.
Sentiment isn't safety. Rankings reflect owner satisfaction, not safety testing. For car seats, sleep products and anything regulated, follow manufacturer instructions and AAP guidance — our category pages carry that disclaimer for a reason.
What we don't do
No sponsored placements. No free review samples. No brand has ever paid to appear, move up, or stay quiet — and no brand is told about a ranking before you see it.

Rankings refresh as new discussions accumulate; every category page shows when its data was last updated and how many comments are behind it.
